Volunteering and Events

Volunteering with the SSC

Get involved with the SSC! We offer many opportunities to participate with all our student-led initiatives, from one-time volunteer events to our term- or year-long leadership development program. Volunteer opportunities can range from working at the Produce Drops, getting your hands dirty at the Grove Garden, attending work parties on the river with our Habitat Restoration team, to facilitating activities that help reduce climate anxiety. Sign up for our newsletter, follow our Instagram (@uo_ssc), or check out our events calendar below for upcoming volunteer opportunities.

SSC Leadership and Engagement Program

Students who want to get involved with the SSC also have the option to become a part of the SSC’s Leadership and Engagement Program. Students who participate will join one of the SSC’s program teams throughout the term and work with a group of other students who are interested in the same topic. The LEP is accepting volunteers for this term and academic year! Fill out our volunteer interest form to be notified about our upcoming LEP orientations.

Presented by The Student Sustainability Center and Basic Needs Program, students can come learn about and apply for SNAP, learn about additional food resources from UO and local programs, grab food from the taco bar, and watch meal prep related live demonstrations! SNAP stands for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, and is a federal program that provides monetary food assistance for individuals and families with low income. Many college students are eligible for this program, and can currently receive up to $292/month to help pay for groceries when eligible! Caseworkers from the Oregon Department of Human Services will be on site providing applications and interviews, allowing students the opportunity to fully complete the application process in one go! Student workers and volunteers will also be on site to help answer your questions. To learn more about what the SNAP application process entails ahead of time, visit basicneeds.uoregon.edu/snap.

Frohnmayer Bridge

Looking for a way to unwind and make a change? The UO Student Sustainability Center and UO Natural Areas Program are once again leading a team of volunteers on the WRNA (Willamette River Natural Area) to remove invasive plant species!

We will meet at 10AM on February 8 on the south side of the Frohnmayer Bridge and work until 1PM.

We will provide snacks and a water station, as well as all the tools, safety gear, and materials needed to manage the restorative efforts. Anyone is welcome to join us! No experience is needed. We’re happy to invite enthusiastic volunteers willing to help and are always excited to see the impact of our collaborative restoration efforts.

Remember! Come prepared with close-toed shoes, water bottles, and weather appropriate clothing.

We hope to see you there!

Student Sustainability Center EMU 005

The Student Sustainability Center is hosting this workshop to help students add valuable volunteer experiences to their resumes. We recognize that many students have these experiences, but may not know how to voice it to a potential employer. This will be a collaborative session where students will have an opportunity to discuss and ask questions about making meaningful additions to their job findings materials.
