The Student Sustainability Center aims to provide students with the tools and resources needed to succeed in school and beyond. We recognize the effects of environmental issues on marginalized communities, and that attending an institution as a visible minority can create discomfort. We work to ensure that all students understand the connection between social and environmental issues, and we offer resources and guidance to those affected. We want to bring the issues to light such as social justice, environmental racism, and the urgency of meeting essential needs. By making these topics a part of everyday conversation, we can begin to destigmatize the need for help during hard times whether that be financially, working through grief, or just wanting to learn more.
The Student Sustainability Center’s Environmental Justice program envisions diverse student involvement in educational and equity programs, cultivating sustainable community connections and resilience in the face of structural inequalities and a changing climate. The mission of this program is to provide students from all backgrounds with education on topics of environmental and racial justice, skills to critically engage with these topics, and guidance in acting against environmental injustice.

Climate Anxiety and Resiliency
The SSC offers climate anxiety outreach programming to support students facing climate anxiety or the stress, grief, guilt, depression, anxiety, or other psychological effects experienced due to worrying about the impacts of climate change. We center joy, community, mindfulness, and hope as forms of resistance to foster resilience.
We provide activity-based programming in collaboration with other on-campus organizations, creating opportunities for students to discuss climate anxiety with their peers and expand their self-care toolkits. Check out our Volunteering and Events page for our upcoming mindfulness events, crafts, wellness workshops, and more!
